Reiki is an ancient Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.  It is a holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonising all aspects of the person – body, mind, emotions and spirit.  It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.  If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress and if it is high, we are more capable of being healthy and happy.

Our bodies are sending us messages every day to highlight that something is not right in our lives; to nudge us into noticing that we are going in the wrong direction; or to bring to our attention that there are lessons to be learned which we may be ignoring. Reiki helps in bringing into focus those areas of life (mind, body, spirit) which are out of balance and which if left unchecked may manifest in a physical disease in the body.

A session is done on a Reiki table (plinth) with the client fully clothed.  Only shoes need to be removed.  The hands are generally placed on the body in the area of the seven major energy centres (chakras), the joints and the feet.  Intuition guides the length of time the hands remain in any given area.  A state of deep relaxation, combined with a general feeling of well being is usually the most noticeable immediate effect of the treatment, although emotional releases can also occur.  A treatment is followed by 10-15 minutes of discussion on whatever is brought to the clients awareness.

What to expect at Reiki For You

We all have an energy field (aura) surrounding our physical body.  As we go through life we place demands on this energy field and our energy field can become depleted.  This is when we get run down, unable to cope or even depressed.  During a Reiki treatment, this energy field re-energises. Reiki restores the natural balance of the body, providing deep relaxation and bringing a sense of peace and well-being.  The energy is not directed by the conscious mind of the practitioner but rather by the subconscious desires of the client.
Reiki is not intrusive since the energy will pass through clothing, bandages, plaster casts or braces and the client remains fully clothed.

The Reiki practitioner will complete a client consultation form with the client and explain how Reiki works.  Client remains fully clothed and lies upon a Reiki table with a light blanket covering the body.  The Reiki practitioner follows a series of hand positions over the body.  Generally the client feels a deep sense of relaxation, heat, coolness and energy flowing during the treatment.  A session usually lasts one hour.  Someone with a chronic condition is usually advised to have a weekly Reiki treatment for four to six weeks for the energy to build up in the system.  Treatments can then be reviewed by the client and practitioner.  People with acute conditions may notice lasting improvements after two treatments.
No two cases are the same, as Reiki works on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual  levels.

Reiki works intelligently and in harmony with your body.  Even if you are not aware of illness, Reiki will find any that there is and treat it.  As Reiki always treats the whole person, and not the disease, it does not need a diagnosis to be helpful.  Anyone in good health will still gain from a Reiki session.  It will add to your relaxation levels, reduce your susceptibility to disease by strengthening your immune system and boost your self esteem and self confidence.

Reiki is known to have a positive effect on all forms of illness and negative conditions.  This can include minor illness like head or stomach aches, bee stings, colds, flu, tension and anxiety as well as serious illness like heart disease, cancer, leukemia etc.  The side effects of regular treatments have also been reduced or eliminated.  This includes the side effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the time needed to stay in hospital.
